Get star ratings in Google search results with structured data.
SEO Star Ratings Block
The SEO block injects JSON-LD structured data into your product pages so Google can display star ratings in search results. This is invisible to shoppers — it only talks to search engines.
Why It Matters
When Google shows star ratings next to your product in search results, your listing stands out and gets more clicks. This is called a "rich snippet" and it's one of the most effective ways to increase organic traffic.
Adding the Block
- Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize
- Navigate to your product page template
- Click Add block and select Review Nova - Search Engine Star Ratings
- Save your theme — that's it
The block is invisible on your storefront. In the theme editor, you'll see a helper message confirming it's active.
How It Works
- Review Nova syncs each product's average rating and review count to Shopify metafields automatically
- The SEO block reads these metafields and outputs
AggregateRatingstructured data in JSON-LD format - Google crawls this data and may show star ratings in search results within days
Important Notes
- One per page — the block has a
limit: 1to prevent duplicate structured data - No JS required — the block is pure Liquid, so it works even if JavaScript is disabled
- Product pages only — add this block to your product page template, not collection or home pages
- Automatic updates — ratings are synced to metafields whenever reviews are approved or removed
Verifying It Works
After adding the block, use Google's Rich Results Test to check your product pages. Enter a product URL and look for AggregateRating in the results.
It can take a few days for Google to re-crawl your pages and start showing star ratings in search results.
